Pope Remains Alert, Not Considered in Immediate Danger

Despite the serious nature of the episode, the Vatican confirmed that Pope Francis remained alert and oriented throughout the process.

Although he is not out of danger, a spokesperson assured that his condition is being closely monitored. Doctors expect to know more about his health in the next 24-48 hours.

Ongoing Health Struggles and Recent Hospitalization

This is Pope Francis’s fourth hospitalization, with his current stay being the longest since he became pope in 2013.

He was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital two weeks ago for lung-related issues, including bronchitis and pneumonia.

The pontiff has dealt with lung problems throughout his life, having had part of one lung removed after a severe pneumonia in his youth.

Pope Francis Will Miss Ash Wednesday Service

The Vatican has also announced that Pope Francis will not lead the Ash Wednesday service marking the start of Lent, for only the second time during his papacy. A cardinal will take his place during the service.

Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernández, praying for the pope on Friday night, emphasized the importance of prayers not only for the Holy Father but for all those suffering from war, illness, and poverty around the world. The pontiff’s condition remains under observation, and the Vatican continues to provide updates on his health.

Ongoing Medical Care and Updates Expected Soon

As Pope Francis undergoes intensive medical treatment, his schedule has been cleared to accommodate his health needs. The Vatican continues to monitor his recovery, with further updates expected in the coming days.
