His comments followed high-level talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, marking the first diplomatic meeting between the two since Trump's recent pivot toward Moscow.

China, a strong Russia ally, voiced support for all peace efforts, including recent US-Russia discussions. Both nations appear to agree that NATO's expansion has contributed to the ongoing conflict, a claim Russia has long made despite Western dismissals.

Meanwhile, the US has increased its pressure on Ukraine, with National Security Advisor Michael Waltz citing Trump’s frustration over Ukrainian President Zelensky’s reluctance to agree to a proposed deal.

This has led to an escalating rift between Trump and Zelensky, casting doubt on Ukraine’s future in peace talks.

Zelensky, however, emphasized the need for strong US-Ukraine relations and security guarantees to prevent further conflict.

The tensions between the US and Ukraine highlight a shifting dynamic in global diplomacy amid the war.
