President Claudia Sheinbaum shared a letter from Google’s Vice President of Government Affairs, Cris Turner, which states the company’s decision to keep the name "Gulf of America" on maps in the U.S., following a policy change after former President Trump’s declaration.
The letter explained that Google aims to provide a consistent mapping policy across all regions.
The gulf is currently labeled as "Gulf of America" within the U.S., "Gulf of Mexico" within Mexico, and "Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)" elsewhere.
Turner emphasized that Google uses multiple authoritative sources to ensure accurate geographical representation and is open to further discussions with the Mexican government.
Sheinbaum confirmed that if no resolution is reached, the government will proceed with legal action.
Thanks.
